WHERE'S MY EMAIL?
- Read This And Find Out!
Spam and email
messages containing viruses have become a very serious problem within
the internet community. As more and more spammers come onto the scene it
has becomes very important for Internet Service Providers to be
aggressive when dealing with Spam. Unfortunately sometimes even
legitimate mail can be quarantined or not delivered to the recipient
because it has traits consistent with email from known mass emailers,
aka ''spammers.''
AVCI.net's Spam Slade & Dr Watchem enables users to control how spam is
handled. Users can now specify email addresses/domains from which they
want to receive email and adjust the spam filter settings.
In addition to our aggressive stance on spam we also recognize the need
for user controls as well. The following is designed to assist our users
with understanding what spam is, setting up a whitelist and changing
their spam preferences.
GLOSSARY OF HELPFUL TERMS
Email address — the address used to identify your email box. It
is the address others use when sending you email. Example: johndoe@avci.net
Domain — the unique name that identifies an Internet site.
Example: avci.net
Virus — a computer program that makes copies of itself without
any conscious human intervention, quite often via email messages. It can
also install itself onto a computer, cause problems or even destroy
data.
Note: All email messages found to contain a virus are discarded by
Spam Slade & Dr. Watchem.
Spam (ing) — sending the same message to a large number of people
who didn't ask for it. Usually a message containing a sales pitch, porno
solicitation or some type of scam.
Spam Filter — a program that intercepts emails, evaluates the
named recipient, the sender and the contents. It then either discards
the email message, quarantines it or allows it to be delivered based on
user preferences.
Quarantine — to separate into a special area any email message
that is identified as being consistent with spam.
Whitelist — to identify an email sender's address or an entire
domain from which you always want to receive messages
Blacklist — to identify an email sender's address or an entire
domain from which you never want to receive messages
